Yarrangobilly Caves

Glory Hole Cave At the northern end of the Kosciuszko National Park, the deep gorges and rugged bluffs of the Yarrangobilly River guard the Yarrangobilly Caves, a string of limestone caves with many stunning features including columns, frozen waterfalls and underground pools. Yarrangobilly has a natural thermal pool which is a constant 27 degrees Celsius, so bring your bathers. Bushwalks and fishing in the Yarrangobilly River are also popular.

Guided and self-guided tours are available, with torchlight tours arranged by special request. Six caves are usually open for inspection - North Glory Cave and Glory Hole Cave for self-guided tours, while you should ring ahead of time to enquire about tours of Jillabenan, Jersey, Castle and Harrie Wood Caves. Tickets are available from the caves information centre, which also has an interpretive centre.

Driving instructions: Head along the Snowy Mountains Highway to Kiandra. ?? km after Kiandra, turn left to the caves (?? km all weather gravel road).

Tumut No 2 Power Station

This underground power station is part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, which is one of the world's greatest engineering achievements.

A new visitor centre is located one kilometre inside the mountain, giving a dynamic visitor experience with displays, models and a light and audio/visual show.

Driving directions: Head along the Snowy Mountains Highway to Kiandra, take the road to Cabramurra at Kiandra. Leave your car at top of station and take the bus through the tunnel into the power station.
